weird and wild in the woods

What do we mean by Weird and Wild, exactly?

This event was inspired last summer when I went to the woods to recharge because I was feeling low. I found myself dancing weirdly and wildly barefoot in a mountain stream by myself, and I thought “how freaking fun would this be with other women on a camping retreat?!” And the name “Weird and Wild in the Woods ” was given to me. A year later it’s coming to fruition!

Weird: “of strange or extraordinary character : ODD, FANTASTIC, relating to or caused by the supernatural: MAGICAL”

Weird derives from the Old English noun wyrd, essentially meaning “fate” and the power to control one’s destiny.

Wild: living in a state of nature; not subject to restraint or regulation : UNCONTROLLED, deviating from the intended or expected course; a wild, free, or natural state

“To be a wild woman means to establish territory, to find one’s pack, to be in one’s body with certainty and pride regardless of the body’s gifts and limitations, to speak and act in one’s behalf, to be aware, alert, to draw on the innate feminine powers of intuition and sensing, to come into one’s cycles, to find what one belongs to, to rise with dignity, to retain as much consciousness as possible” – ‘Women Who Run With the Wolves’ by Clarissa Pinkola Estes.

We’ll have experiences to explore and express our weirdness in all definitions of the word — strange, magical, odd, supernatural, fantastic and experiences to connect with our wild nature.

IF FLYING IN: Because of damage from Hurricane Helene in the Asheville, North Carolina and East Tennessee areas, if flying in, I recommend flying into and out of Knoxville instead of Asheville. You would encounter partially closed roads, bridges, and construction between the Asheville Airport and Cosby.
